Close to 25,000 Left Without Electricity in Queensland and Victoria Following Intense Weather Systems

Around 25,000 households in Queensland's southeast woke up without power on Monday morning after intense storm systems impacted the state, bringing wind gusts topping 109 kilometers per hour.

Large Frozen Precipitation and Widespread Impact

Residents reported substantial frozen pellets reaching sizes of 7 centimeters in some areas. The Bureau of Meteorology announced that different parts across Queensland had been affected by large hailstones.

Emergency crews were working to restore energy supply throughout the affected regions, with nearly 70 crews activated to address the numerous electricity disruptions.

Victorian Climate Difficulties

Meanwhile, nearly one thousand residents in Victoria also faced power outages after the metropolitan area experienced its most precipitation in 18 months.

State Emergency Services responded to nearly 600 emergency reports across the region, primarily for property damage but also for downed trees and water accumulation.

• Wyndham - nearly 180 calls for assistance

At one point on Sunday, over twenty-eight thousand power users in the state were without power.

Climate Outlook

Damp conditions were predicted to continue along much of the state's eastern regions this coming days as a weather pattern continued to draw in moisture against the coast.

Tuesday was predicted as the most rainy day, with continued severe weather risk anticipated across different parts of both regions.

Safety Concern

Health officials warned that there was an higher risk of weather-related respiratory issues across the countryside regions, specifically given the existing atmospheric conditions.
